  • BMQG Get-Away 2022 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

    1. What exactly is the Get-Away? “Cabin Fever Reliever” sewing retreat weekend held at the:
Red Jacket Mt. View Resort in North Conway starting April 8th -10th, 2022.
The extra sewing day is Thursday, April 7th, 2022.  Registrations are confirmed once your deposits have been received.  Registration will be open for the first 50 people (for BMQG members & non-members alike), and others will be waitlisted.

    2. What is the “extra sewing day”? By popular demand an extra day of sewing has been provided on Thursday as a “Sew on Your Own Day.” Additional room charges apply for Thursday’s night stay with no meals included until Friday April 8th at 5pm.
      Thursday Night Discounted Room Rates:
      Single Rooms: $150 per person
      Double Rooms: $77 per person
      Triple Rooms: $58 per person
Quad Rooms: Not Available for Thursday Night.

    3. What hours are available for sewing?  Starting at noon on Friday until Sunday till noon. Extra day sewing starts Thursday at noon. Please be aware your guest room may not be ready until late afternoon, however, sewing space will be calling your name! If you want to sew all night, you go for it! The sewing room is open as long as someone is in it.  Otherwise, it is locked for security purposes so that you may leave your machines in the room.

    4. What is the challenge exhibit?  Each year at the close of the Get-Away weekend, a challenge is announced for the next year.  Anyone in attendance is eligible to participate in the challenge for ribbons and prizes whether you attended the previous year’s event or not.

    5. How do I find out the subject of the challenge?
      Two Colors
      --Two Borders
      --Two Blocks
      --Dimensions are 20" x 22"
(2022 in Roman numerals is MMXXII,
which inspired the three "twos" in the challenge.)

    6. Is it true that there are door prizes and raffles?   Of course!  You can take chances on a terrific raffle basket full of quilt related goodies.  And don’t forget the GRAND PRIZE drawing for a free Get-Away weekend the following year for the winner’s half of a double room! Please bring cash to buy your tickets for multiple raffles.

    7. How is the food at the Red Jacket Mt. View Resort?  Let’s put it this way, no one has ever left feeling hungry.  The meals are great and the service is wonderful.  It’s a really great experience with no cooking and no cleanup!  And it’s all included in your room fee.

    8. Why would I want to try the quilting workshop?  Because it’s lots of fun to see the project evolve and you might even complete it during the weekend. Dawn Lovell will be teaching this year how to make quilted jackets.

    9. Why do I need to make out two checks to send in with the registration form?  One check covers the hospitality, workshops and supplies provided by BMQG.  The other check for the hotel is a room deposit and guarantees your room reservation.  You will pay the balance of your room bill at the time of checkout.  Remember that there is a 72-hour cancellation policy for individual room cancellations plus a $25.00 cancellation fee.
Send both checks to the designated address on the registration form:
BMQG Get-Away, PO Box 6174, Laconia, NH 03247-6174

    10. Are there any other activities?  In the evenings we have casual meetings with prizes, Show & Tell, Tips & Tricks, Challenge Winner Announcement, and more! Chair massages are offered this coming year.  And of course, if you need a break, there is always shopping in North Conway for some retail therapy.

    11. Is the hotel handicapped accessible? The hotel has bellhop service to assist you with hauling your belongings to your room and your sewing gear to our designated sewing and workshop rooms. Tips are always appreciated.

    12. What if it is cancelled? If the event is canceled by the Guild and hotel, your fees will be refunded.  If the event goes on & you cancel, you will forfeit your registration fee and owe the hotel $25 for your room cancelation cost.

    13. What has been changed due to Covid-19?  As we have all become very aware, changes in protocol can/might change. Masks will be optional. Last year, our meals were plated instead of buffet style in past years. If they are plated, you will be asked to select your food choices from a limited menu in mid-March. If you have any restrictive dietary preferences, please let us know as Red Jacket is very accommodating.

  • Get-Away 2021 Recap

This year’s Get-Away was held at the Red Jacket Inn in North Conway on March 18th - 21st. Only 17 people were in attendance for this retreat.  After the year of the pandemic some folks were still too weary to venture out.  But those who did had a BLAST.  It was “modified” but it was also freeing in the sense we were back together, sisters in quilting.

    The 2020 Challenge was
    20 fabrics in a 20x20 quilt.

There were six entries for the challenge.
    Congratulations to the winners:
    1st- Donna Tondreau
    2nd- Deb Wyman
    3rd- Dawn Lovell
